The purpose of darkness and trial is to live by faith making it meritorious. Darkness and suffering are gifts leading us to heaven and meriting us greater glory. No servant is greater than his master.
Human nature’s law humbles us through its weakness, while God’s law of grace on the Cross sanctifies us through that weakness. This is why Paul gloried not through vain human accomplishments but gloried in his suffering. We must pick up our cross and follow the Master if we are to be saved. Suffering is our crown of life.
2 Corinthians 12:9-10
“I shall be very happy to make my weaknesses my special boast so that the power of Christ may stay over me, and that is why I am quite content with my weaknesses, and with insults, hardships, persecutions, and the agonies I go through for Christ’s sake. For it is when I am weak that I am strong.”
